Firearms Licensing: New Applications and Renewals

NEW APPLICANTS

1. Complete your safety training.
Before scheduling an appointment, complete a Massachusetts-approved firearms safety course and obtain your certificate.

If you believe you qualify for a statutory training exemption, contact the firearms licensing officer before applying.

2. Complete your application.
Download and complete the application or apply online through the Massachusetts MIRCS Unified Gun Portal.

3. Drop off the following items at the station:

• Your completed application, if you did not apply online.
• Your Massachusetts-approved firearms safety certificate, unless a statutory exemption applies.
• A check or money order payable to “Town of Carver” for the applicable fee. Cash and credit cards are not accepted.
• Your driver’s license or other government-issued photo identification.

4. We will contact you to set up an appointment.

FID applicants ages 15–17 must also submit written permission from a parent or guardian.

RENEWAL APPLICANTS

1. Complete your renewal application.
Apply online through the Massachusetts MIRCS Unified Gun Portal (preferred) or download and complete the paper application.

Complete the required lost/stolen firearms affidavit as part of your renewal. Additional training documentation may be required depending on your licensing history. Contact the firearms licensing officer if you are unsure.

2. Submit your payment and any paper documents.

• If you applied online: Drop off your payment at the station.
• If you completed a paper application: Drop off your application, required supporting documents, and payment at the station.

Payment must be made by check or money order payable to “Town of Carver.” Cash and credit cards are not accepted.

The station lobby is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Place applications and payments in the black drop box outside the dispatch window.

Submit your renewal before your current license expires, and retain your application receipt or online submission confirmation.
